The Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance
United Kingdom

History and Activities

Founded in 2001 as part of the International Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance, The Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance United Kingdom is a non-profit, non-sectarian, apolitical organization dedicated to making human rights and religious tolerance a reality in today's troubled world.

Through programs, projects, and special events in many countries, the Foundation seeks to bring about increased awareness and demand for the basic rights and freedoms as set forth in the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

The Foundation's goals are:

To provide easy-to-understand human rights education to adults and children so that they are able to grasp what fundamental human rights are as aligned with the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

To effectively combat violations of human rights, focusing on the issues of children and religious freedom.

Creating a better world

By broadly increasing awareness of the principles embodied in agreements such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Foundation is changing the way people are viewing their rights and their personal responsibilities. Such agreements offer a peaceful weapon for good people to use to help bring about a better way of life.

The Foundation takes its message of freedom to all levels of government, and to the citizens who continue to suffer from harrassment and discrimination - often in spite of the fact that their countries are signatories to the Declaration.

Our work is valuable

When we look at the world today, we are struck by widespread fear and unhappiness, conditions that can often be linked to misunderstanding, intolerance, and abuses of basic human rights. Whether in Asia, Africa, Europe, or the Americas, much of the discord and violence can be traced to intolerance and abuse of basic human rights.

By increasing the levels of tolerance and understanding among the peoples of the world, the Foundation is directly addressing the source of so much unhappiness.

The value of such a sky-high goal is incalculable.

Supported By Memberships

The Foundation is supported solely through memberships and donations, but is looking to expand with the assistance of corporate sponsorships and foundation grants. Its members volunteer their time and efforts to further the goals of the Foundation. The logo of the Foundation is two doves soaring with an olive branch, symbolizing freedom of the spirit.

Membership is open to parishioners of any religion, and our membership and supporters represent a wide cross-section of religious and political persuasions. Its members are ethical, religious persons united in their stand to make human rights a basic building block of every country of the world.

"Action is the only remedy to indifference.
Whenever and wherever human beings endure
suffering and humiliation, take sides. Neutrality helps
the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages
the tormentor, never the tormented."
~ Elie Weisel, 1986 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. ~
