The
official inauguration of the Interreligious and International
Peace Council (IIPC) UK was hosted by supporters at
the House of Lords. Over 100 delegates attended the
event including the UN's associate Director Malcolm
Harper and the religious advisor to the Sheikh of
the United Arab Emirates. The event was hosted by
the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification
- United Kingdom (www.ffwpu.org.uk).
At the event the Chairman of the Foundation
for Human Rights and Tolerance, Mike Ricketts, was
Inaugurated as an Ambassador for Peace. The
presentation was hosted by Lord
Ahmed of Rotherham, who not only the first Muslim
but the youngest member of the House of Lords, and
His Excellency Professor Ian Hall, Inaugural Ambassador
of Non-Governmental Organsations.
The setting up of IIPC's
is part of a global initiative set up by the IIFWP
(Interreligious International Federation for World
Peace) aimed at establishing similar councils in different
countries around the world. This is part of an even
larger initiative to set up an Interreligious Council,
or "Upper House" of religious leaders, at
the United Nations. The IIPC's currently being established
around the world are working to emulate, like "mini-UN's"
what the Interreligious Council at the United Nations
is hoped to achieve: serious peace and stability through
interrligious dialogue and cooperation.
